PER syllabus: the 11 exam topics
The theory exam has 45 multiple-choice questions in Spanish from the 11 topics and lasts 90 minutes. You pass with 32 correct answers and within the mistake limits of the must-pass topics.

How many topics does the PER have?
The PER theory syllabus has 11 topics: Nautical terminology, Mooring and anchoring equipment, Safety at sea, Legislation, Buoyage, Collision regulations (COLREGs), Manoeuvres and boat handling, Emergencies at sea, Meteorology, Navigation theory and Chartwork.
How many questions does the PER exam have?
45 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes. You pass with at least 32 correct answers (up to 13 mistakes).
Which topics are must-pass?
Buoyage (max. 2 mistakes), Collision regulations (COLREGs) (max. 5 mistakes) and Chartwork (max. 2 mistakes). If you make more mistakes than that in a must-pass topic, you fail even with 32 correct answers.
